Monica Ray

DRAWING & PAINTING
Monica Ray was born and educated in The Netherlands, and moved to the United States of America in 1987, obtaining American Citizenship in 2002. She lives and works on Long Island, drawing inspiration from her garden overlooking the Long Island Sound. She paints what she grows, but also finds inspiration from her travels around the world. She earned and holds a certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden. She has participated in various art shows, nationally and locally. She had her first solo show at Bayard Cutting Arboretum on Long Island in the summer of 2015. An interview with Monica Ray about her art and what brought her to Botanicals was published in “The Botanical Artist”, the Journal of the American Society of Botanical Artists (March 2015 issue). Her art is executed in silverpoint, in addition to colored pencil, watercolor, graphite, pen & ink and mixed media.
