Title: Welcome Party II
Oil on Paper
25" x 22" framed
Value: $900
Starting Bid: $500
A native of North Carolina, Gina Gilmour came to the North Fork from Manhattan with a William Steeple Davis Fellowship, and currently lives and works in Mattituck. She is primarily known for her figurative paintings and sculpture - metaphoric landscapes and evocative narratives. As one critic recently noted: “The colorful images are full of light and resonance. They are a poetry of landscape and the heart - fragile, resilient, and soaring.” Gina says, “Art has always been for me a means for processing experience, a way to celebrate and to mourn, to rail against the intolerable, and to navigate the mysterious.” Welcome Party is from a recent series of joyful paintings that move toward abstraction. “With these, I have to let the paint tell me what to do next like music and dancing”. Gina’s paintings and sculptures are in many private and public collections including The Becheler Museum of Art, The North Carolina Museum of Art, The Newark Museum. She has shown her work throughout the US and Europe and is represented by The Peter Marcelle Gallery.Thank you Gina Gilmour!

Ivan Kustura
Title: Rose with Hat
Oil Painting
30" x 25"
Value: $4,000
Starting Bid: $700
Kustura's artist statement and process description: Philosophy, a way of life, is mirrored above all in one's art. It’s useless to focus on techniques, styles, art movements - as an art work does not exist in nature itself. It is to be approached with cunning, like planning a crime, while cultivating it, growing it. Work is my way of being. My fundamental link with reality, with life itself. A dialogue, opening toward the world that surrounds me, nourishes me, offends me, causes me to burn within. I am a reflection of my time, an artist of my time; fascinated by that thin line between creation and nothing - chaos and the void.
Kustura’s art has been featured in countless galleries in the United States and Europe. -

Jim Gemake
Title: On Ischia
Mixed Media
18" x 28.5"
Value: $2,500
Starting Bid: $750
'On Ischia' is a wonderful example of the assemblages that have made Gemake so well known on both Forks. As a mixed media artist, Gemake depends primarily on the found or discarded object to achieve the elements of color, shape and texture that are so important in his work. He explains, “By assembling the discarded objects into something new or different, there is a sense of salvation, of bringing these objects to a new life and with a new meaning. Ultimately my work is about: construction (the object in its original state), deconstruction (the discarded object now torn, broken, weathered - i.e. No longer in its original state), and reconstruction - as it now appears in my art”. While Gemake’s work is about change, one also senses an attempt to bring an element of concealment and withholding to his pieces, leaving room for the imagination. -

Title: Intelligent Origins Drew the Mind
Watercolor/India Ink
15" x 22"
Value: $5,000
Starting Bid: $500
Michele Basora made her debut in 1996 to tremendous fanfare, being instantly compared in a New York Times review to Francesco Clemente. At only 23 she had already developed a credible version of Neo-expressionistic figuration as can be seen in this india ink and watercolor painting entitled ‘Intelligent Origins Drew the Mind’. The Times article went on to commend her on mixing issues of race and gender with a wild fantasy life while giving equal weight to the psychological and the decorative.Thank you Charles Riley!

Sara Cedar Miller
Title: Ponquogue XlX
Photograph
16" x 20"
Starting Bid: $300
Miller’s archival pigment “light drawings” capture the bays and ocean near her home in Hampton Bays in an abstract style that radically departs from the more traditional and recognizable images of the East End’s water ways. Influenced by her passion for calligraphy, map imagery and watercolor, Miller’s unique images surprise and delight viewers who are shocked to learn that the pictures are essentially “straight” photographs. 'Ponquogue XlX' is an excellent example of her unique technique and mastery. -

Title: Just Steps to the Beach
Oil Painting
16" x 20"
Value: $600
Starting Bid: $300
Feiler’s paintings reflect the radiantly colored landscape of each season, celebrating the pastoral serenity of the East End with each of her works. Feiler states “The seasons here unfold with dazzling colors, shapes and shadows all overlapping. I study a landscape as if it were a score of music. Colors can evoke emotions just as music does. Music and art are so closely related because there is constant motion and a rhythm in the both processes. When I interpret the landscape, I am painting what I see, hear, what I feel. And it feels just like music. I hear my paintings with every stroke.” The oil painting, 'Just Steps to the Beach', was donated by the artist to support this fundraiser and was created on location, plein air on North Sea Drive in Southold. Patricia Feiler’s work has been represented in many fine galleries and private collections in the United States and internationally.Thank you Pat Feiler!

Tina Folks
Title: Horse Totem
Ceramic
17"
Value: $450
Starting Bid: $200
East End artist Tina Folks has been working with clay for over 25 years. However, during the last 3 years Tina has felt that her ceramic work has had a unique and spiritually inspired purpose: to explore the ancient archetypes of animals and their meanings represented in indigenous cultures and how they relate to her current life’s experience. While working in this direction, Tina has come to learn a lot more about power animals and their medicine and how they can be guides for us in our daily lives. As with this new ceramic sculpture, 'Horse Totem', at times the artist has felt like she has been exploring a forgotten culture. “My work finally feels authentic and this is very exciting." We are grateful that Tina has donated this sculpture to tonight’s cause.Thank you Tina Folks!

Title: Early October Pond
Oil Painting
22" x 22"
Value: $400
Starting Bid: $200
'Early October Pond' is a wonderful example of painting directly from nature; given to us through the generosity of artist Bryan Gutman. As a East End artist, Bryan’s keen eye for color has inspired him for many years to paint fall scenes usually around tributaries, ponds and creeks. Since the foliage closest to the water changes the earliest, Bryan starts as soon as mid-September visiting his favorite spots to monitor their autumnal changes. The artist completes most of his compositions in “plein-air” while surrounded by the sounds of nature and natural light. The fleeting beauty of bright reds, oranges and golden yellows are interpreted with exuberance in his work. He has remained committed to painting since completing his MFA degree from Brooklyn College in 1984. Bryan Gutman shares a home studio with his wife, ceramic artist Tina Folks in Patchogue.Thank you Bryan Gutman!

Title: Dream Realized
Oil Collage on Canvas
10" x 8"
Value: $800
Starting Bid: $300
Using paper, found objects, oils and pencil, Haubrich creates multi-layered collages exploring themes of human relationships, spirituality, life and death and the blur between reality and fantasy. The mystery of creation, seen often in its random and spontaneous forms, is a theme of Haubrich's work as is the inevitability and pungent beauty of decay. At times the artist approaches the canvas with a specific natural or manmade inspiration in mind - a certain landscape or skyscape, a piece of rusted or corroded metal or scratched glass, or the soil, trees and leaves. He may also begin with more spiritual notions of mystery, wonder or harmony. At times, inspiration comes from the sheer physicality of the materials themselves and the often alchemic interplay between them. Haubrich has exhibited nationally and his work can be found in private and corporate collections in the United States and Europe. 'Dream Realized' was a donation by the artist.Thank you John Haubrich!

Marion Jones
Title: Second Act
Collage
12" x 15"
Value: $900
Starting Bid: $300
Quoting gallerist Amy Worth, “Marion’s work is a reflection of Marion - intelligent, warm and compelling. Her abstract images convey strength and calm. Her collages mix a variety of textures, organic shapes and colors that work together to create thoughtful and creative imagery” all of which can be seen in this beautifully composed collage, 'Second Act'. Four years ago Marion Jones was diagnosed with brain cancer that created problems with language, speech and memory. What surprised her was that despite trouble remembering so much, what was never forgotten were the emotions, skills and inspiration involved in making her art. To express her wish for her life and her art, Marion quotes Irish poet John O’Donohue, “I would love to live as a river flows... carried by the surprise of its own unfolding.” -

Photograph
19" x 23"
Starting Bid: $200
Katherine was kind enough to donate this wonderful photo entitled 'Dental Work' to the auction. Her photographs have appeared in journals, magazines, and books ranging from Victorian Homes Magazine to The Drama Review and Routledge Press's Gender Series. In addition to photography, Liepe-Levinson has performed as a professional dancer and actor on and off Broadway, as well as in film and television. She has a Ph.D. in Theatre from New York City's CUNY Graduate Center. Her performing arts experience has given her a unique sense of timing and the ability to discover the drama in the "scene" at hand. Her photograph, 'Dental Work', which won Best in Show for photography at the East End Arts June 2012 Animals exhibit is one such example. In this work, Liepe-Levinson captures the joy and intimacy in the relationship of a man and his dog.Thank you Katherine Liepe-Levinson!

Elizabeth Malunowiz
Title: Celebration
Oil Painting
12" x12"
Value: $600
Starting Bid: $300
The painter Elizabeth Malunowicz was trained in the academic tradition of classical realism, yet her paintings reveal a contemporary sensibility. Her oil painting, 'Celebration', is from her series titled Painting Life, which includes still life, portrait studies and landscapes all created in a standard square foot measure. This format unites the individual and varied paintings as a platform that becomes a visual diary of a woman’s life, reflecting her observations,'experiences, and memories. In her work, Malunowicz hopes to capture and convey the significant moments, the essence of life and the breadth of humanity. Ms. Malunowicz’s work has been shown in galleries across Long Island and at the juried exhibit at the National Organization of Women Artists in New York City. She has won numerous awards, including Best in Show at the East End Arts juried gallery show in 2012. Her work is in private collections across the country, as well as The Ed and Phyllis Davis Wellness Institute at Southampton Hospital. -
Dianne Martin
Title: Fable of the Deep Blue Sea
Collage on Fine Art Print
Value: $800
Starting Bid: $300
Dianne Martin constructs complex monotypes on an etching press using bits of nature at her studio in Long Island City. Living part-time in Southold, the topography of the North Fork is always an important inspiration. This creation, 'Fable of the Deep Blue Sea', seems to suggest a story or “fable”. Various items (twigs, feathers, etc.) collected from North Fork beaches and fields are incorporated into a compelling visual world that bridges reality and imagination. Martin has a degree in painting and printmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design. Recently her art work was awarded Best in Show at East End Arts. Dianne Martin’s work has shown in many galleries from NYC to Long Island’s East End. -
Roxanne Panero
Title: Autumn Squash
Oil Painting
11" x 14"
Value: $600
Starting Bid: $100
Panero paints in oils, occasionally reaching into other media. Her work varies in subject and technique, and she is always experimenting with the versatility of oil paint and its wide ranging and sometimes mysterious properties. 'Autumn Squash' is part of a series of object paintings done from life, while studying academic methods with Robert Armetta at the Long Island Academy of Fine Art. A frequent Best in Show winner at East End Arts, Roxanne’s paintings have also been shown in museums and galleries across the Island. -
Jonathan Pearlman
Title: Wirewalker 3
Found Objects
14" x 8"
Value: $500
Starting Bid: $300
This is 'Wire Walker #3' a whimsical, wonderful sculpture by Jonathan Pearlman. Pearlman has always been interested in what lies beneath the surface and in his sculptures he transforms everyday objects into a new, imaginative form. Whether its wheels, brushes or shoes, his goal is that the viewer of the final piece will discover the intrinsic beauty that exists even in the most mundane objects. Having only begun showing in 2010, Mr. Pearlman has been twice invited to exhibit at the Water Mill Museum. He’s also had a show at the Quogue Library and will be featured at the Remsenberg Academy Gallery next month. Although he has no formal training in art, he was influenced by his life-long friendship with Swiss illustrator and sculptor Paul Degen. Jonathan sculpts and writes in his studio in East Quogue, New York. -
Robert Strimban
Title: Paradise Lost
Paper Sculpture
14" x 14"
Value: $1,200
Starting Bid: $400
The thing that has always influenced Bob’s work the most has been nature, where the magic and diversity is mind boggling. No trees, animals or sounds are exactly alike. Darkness follows light, heat becomes cold, balance and energy can be found everywhere. In his most recent piece, 'Paradise Lost', made expressly for this fundraiser, the artist has tried to express his love for animals and to show his deep sadness around the diminishing numbers of these magnificent creatures. The white animals are symbolic of animal treasures disappearing right now. -

Title: Jamesport Marina Wetlands
Oil Painting
15.5" x19.5"
Value: $500
Starting Bid: $250
'Jamesport Marina Wetlands' is an oil painting of the East Creek in Jamesport generously donated by local artist Laura Stroh. Her painting style is somewhat impressionistic, with bold brushstrokes and a colorful application of paint. This piece is powerful because it captures a very special time of day when the sun is in just the right place in the sky to cause the reeds to light up with sunlight. Laura has always been interested in painting landscapes as her dominant theme especially those on the North Fork of Long Island, because she feels that the light on the North Fork is a ”special light” which makes colors and shadows more vivid and expressive. Laura has been an oil painting instructor in the East End Arts for the last 10 years.Thank you Laura Stroh!
