Meryl Spiegel

PHOTOGRAPHY
Meryl Spiegel is a Long Island photographer who portrays the people, places and things around her whether she's at home on the East End, roaming Manhattan or traveling abroad. While her subjects range from street life to seascapes to still life, her most recent work crosses into abstraction.
"As time goes by, I've become more and more focused on the essence of the moment – the instant when light, line, motion and color converge to create a single composition – never to be repeated."
Working with digital and medium-format cameras, Meryl's imagery looks more like paintings than photographs. She has exhibited widely on Long Island at a variety of venues including Parrish Art Museum, Art Sites, Islip Museum, St. Joseph’s College, Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery, Ashawagh Hall, Levitas Center, Remsenburg Academy, Quogue Library, and the East End Arts Gallery where she was awarded Best in Show.
Her imagery has appeared twice in The Southampton Review published by Stony Brook University. She has also received several grants from NYFA - the New York Foundation for the Arts and was a participant in the MARK '09 program.
Meryl studied photography at the International Center of Photography (ICP) and the Center for Media Studies in Manhattan as well as the Image-Ouverte School of Photography in the South of France. She is also a writer with a Masters of Fine Arts in English & Writing.
