Jessica Simms is a Long Island based artist and art teacher who graduated Magna Cum Laude from SUNY Stony Brook University with a degree in Fine Arts. She is currently getting her masters degree in Art Education from Adelphi University while simultaneously teaching and working on her own art from her newly finished home ceramics studio. Jessica specializes in ceramic sculpture but has a background in drawing, painting, photography, video production and printmaking and loves to explore new mediums and techniques.
Jessica has been teaching art to children and adults since 2016 and has experience in managing art studios and directing art programs at summer camps. She has also participated in a variety of local art shows where she showcased her ceramic installation ‘Its Just A Phase.’ In 2019 Jessica and her fellow teaching assistants organized and executed a group gallery exhibition to display the work of their Advanced Ceramics students at the Tabler Center for the Arts.
It is Jessica’s teaching philosophy that regardless of age, students should be treated as individuals and thus should have agency in the work that they create. Art is a subject that has so many possibilities and students should be free to explore those and express their unique creativity.
