INFORMATION FOR ARTISTS
Skillful use of perspective (or omitting perspective altogether) is a critical component in many great works of art. Some examples:
- Linear – lines of buildings, roads, etc. appear to come together (converge) at a single point on the horizon.
- Atmospheric – the artist uses color changes to show what is near to the viewer (darker colors) and what is far away (lighter colors).
- Visual – the artist uses the size of the object to show what is near and what is far away or overlaps people or objects, showing what is in front and what is behind.
- No Perspective – there is no sense of depth; everything looks flat, as in most Medieval and many modern and contemporary images.
All artists must complete online entry application.
Regular Entry Deadline: March 28, 2017

RJT (Toby) Haynes' Artist Statement:
"I've always loved the alchemy of line & colour, hunting for the spark that makes all the difference to an image. I am not in control of the process, nor would I want to be; it is the journey that is interesting, and discoveries made along the way. I will change my technique or the colours on my palette if it starts to feel too familiar: the materials & subject have a say in what becomes of them, and painting is always a form of dialogue between us."
"I would be a poor taxonomist because I am naturally wired to see similarities & connections rather than differences & distinctions: something as deceptively simple as an apple makes me think of the tree, the blossom, the pollinating insect, the harvest, recipe books, religious & erotic symbolism. I am not so much interested in fleeting impressions as in their lasting effects, the memory of them, the mycelial web of associations they send out; but a painting must ultimately have a life of its own, to find its way without exegesis."

SARA DE LUCA
Owner and Director, ILLE ARTS, Amagansett, NY
Born in Rome, Sara De Luca is the owner and director of Ille Arts Gallery, one of the foremost fine arts purveyors in the Hamptons of Long Island, New York. Sara De Luca worked as a stylist in the fashion industry for many years, and also found time to raise a family here. Her two daughters are both aspiring artists. In 2016, Sara moved her small gallery to a larger and more prominent location on Amagansett’s Main Street and has expanded the gallery’s overall vision as well. Ille Arts has bloomed into a haven for multi-media arts’ activities as well as one of the East End's most preeminent art exhibition venues. Poetry and theater performances have become a regular event and Thursday art classes have recently been added. Her intention is for local artists to be involved in the arts at her gallery beyond mere ‘inspiration’. De Luca's lifelong 'passion for the visual', coupled with her extensive connections to the New York art scene, has ensured a steady flow of boldface names on the gallery walls, as well as the work of emerging, frequently local, artists. Ille Arts is known for promoting an international flavor on Main Street, from both inside and outside the East End community. In Sara’s words, "I'm not channeling any specific area of art, we have no restrictions, whatever strikes me, and moves me, is the kind of work I exhibit."
