Artist Statement
 

The painting, “Astral 4 (Tattoo)” (2018) is mostly blue. Across the painting’s buckling, seamed, unstretched surface of variously sized, hemmed canvas panels, the overall blue gradually differentiates as many moody, shifting densities and shades: true, violet, cerulean, sky, cobalt, indigo. Painted light reveals the drama. There is also a reminder of the painting’s stitched together, self-determined means of support in the loose, uneven, threads hanging down from its hems and seams. Here and there, short, faint, hand-drawn colored pencil lines act as structural reinforcement.

Artist Statement

I am a painter and writer based in Mattituck and Manhattan, NY. I currently have work at Southampton Arts Center, Southampton, NY in the group exhibition, “EARTH – Artists as Activists” through July 11th. My recent solo exhibitions include Adah Rose Gallery, Kensington, MY; the Salena Gallery, LIU Brooklyn, NY; Christopher Stout Gallery, Bushwick, NY; Susan Eley Fine Art, New York, NY; Queens College Art Center, New York, NY; and Washington & Lee University, Lexington, VA. My group exhibitions include VSOP Projects, Greenport, NY; Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton, NY; University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, CT; SPRING/BREAK Art Show, New York, NY; and Fordham University, New York, NY. Selected performances include EMININT DOMAIN, Chelsea, NY; MoMA PS1, and The Brooklyn Museum with Creative Time.

My work is in the collections of Barclays Bank, State Street Bank, The Luciano Benetton Foundation, Glamorise Foundations, Equity Residential, Marriott International, Katie Couric, Anthony Grant, John Erwin and Rainey Day, Jan Nicholson, Deirdre Stanley and Shaun Messiah, Cy Twombly, Barry Hoggard and James Wagner among others both in the US and Europe. I received my BA from Pomona College in Claremont, CA and my MFA in painting from The Rhode Island School of Design. My work has been written about recently in artcritical, The Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, ART21 Magazine, ArtUS, ARTslant, Hamptons Art Hub and The Washington Post.

Web server logs allow us to count how many people visit our website and evaluate our website's visitor capacity. Evaluation of Information Protection Practices -- Periodically, our operations and business practices are reviewed for compliance with organization policies and procedures governing the security, confidentiality and quality of our information. Employee Access, Training and Expectations -- Our organization values, ethical standards, policies and practices are committed to the protection of user information. In general, our business practices limit employee access to confidential information, and limit the use and disclosure of such information to authorized persons, processes and transactions.
  10. How Can You Access and Correct Your Information? You may request access to all your personally identifiable information that we collect online and maintain in our database by emailing us using the contact form provided to you within the site structure of our website.
  11. Do We Disclose Information to Outside Parties? We may provide aggregate information about our customers, sales, website traffic patterns and related website information to our affiliates or reputable third parties, but this information will not include personally identifying data, except as otherwise provided in this privacy policy.
  12. What About Legally Compelled Disclosure of Information? We may disclose information when legally compelled to do so, in other words, when we, in good faith, believe that the law requires it or for the protection of our legal rights.
